A Classic British Inspired Christmas
This Christmas meal plan is inspired by the classic British Christmas dinner. It is great for large families and will definitely leave leftovers for the rest of the year. It's characterised by a big main roast, delicious sides and warm red wines. If you want to try a traditional Christmas inspired by dark green pine trees, ruby red stockings and gold tinsel, follow this meal plan below!
Starter
Smoked salmon with organic sourdough slices and a creamy cheese to enjoy like crudités.
Main Course
Roast turkey with a sage, parsley and onion stuffing. Serve with roast (or mashed!) potatoes, carrots, onion, brussel sprouts and little sausages in puff pastry or bacon (pigs in a blanket). Serve with additional stuffing and cranberry sauce.
Dessert
Christmas pudding and mince pies with custard.
Drinks
Mulled wine, sherry or port.
How to Prepare
Order your smoked salmon, roast turkey, stuffing, roast potatoes, cheerios, bacon and cranberry sauce from Sunshine Coast Organic Meats ASAP. Once you've picked up your order, wait excitedly for Christmas day!
Plan ahead to cook your turkey for about 5 hours. Preheat your oven to 160 degrees, place the turkey breast-side up on a rack on a large roasting tray (if your oven has a grill plate, move it to the middle of the oven and you have an easy roasting pan). Add a cup of water or chicken stock to the bottom of the pan to keep the oven moist. Loosely tent your turkey with foil to allow the inside to cook. After 3 hours of roasting, temperature check your turkey with an instant read thermometer. It should be reaching over 100 degrees by this time. Baste the turkey with the pan juices, cover again for another hour. In the final hour, remove the foil to crisp the skin. Once it reaches 165 degrees, you can remove the turkey and rest for about 20 minutes.
At the same time, prepare your roast vegetables. Cut up the carrot, onions and brussel sprouts, coat with oil and spices then put in the oven in the final hour of your turkey cooking. In the last half hour, wrap your cheerios in puff pastry or bacon and bake until crispy and golden brown. Reheat the Sunshine Coast Organic Meats roast potatoes for half an hour in the oven.
Enjoy your crudités in the meantime!
